FWF reports data on APCs, BPCs and transformative agreements for 2021

The FWF (Austrian Science fund) has updated its data on APC and BPC expenditures as well as articles published under transformative agreements.

Contact person is Katharina Rieck.

Cost Data

The new data set covers APCs for 804 articles. Total expenditure amounts to 1,725,780€ and the average fee is 2,146€. In 2014, the FWF introduced price caps for gold OA (EUR 2500) and for hybrid OA (EUR 1500). Whenever costs exceed those caps, FWF funded authors can use other sources to cover the additional costs. In order to avoid distortions regarding mean values in the OpenAPC data set the FWF set does not include articles where these caps apply and where the additional costs were paid by other sources.

The following tables and plots provide an overview of the reported APC expenditures. Reported cost data on BPCs is not listed here, but they can be inspected in the according BPC treemap section.

Data on transformative agreements can be found either in the OpenAPC TA Treemap (articles only) or the Combined Treemap (includes calculated cost data for agreements).
